South Korean mobile major Samsung’s latest premium smartphone Galaxy S5 is hardly a week old now. However, due to strong market competition, the company chose to already slash down Galaxy S5 price tag substantially in India, which is the third largest smartphone market in the world.
Galaxy S5 price noticed in world’s third largest smartphone market
The new Samsung smartphone has been recently launched in the Indian market with a tag of Rs. 51,990. However, shortly after the Galaxy S5’s launch, Samsung’s Taiwanese rival HTC went ahead with the launch of its latest HTC One (M8). The HTC One M8 went on sale in India on 21st of April at a price of Rs. 49,990. Upon the new HTC One’s launch, Samsung immediately slashed down the price of the new Galaxy S5. The reason behind this is very apparent, market rivalry and tough competition.
As per reports, Samsung’s latest Galaxy smartphone offering is now listed around Rs. 46000 – 47000 by the popular online retailers. However, this price slash can be found only on the white color model of the S5. The Galaxy S5 is available on the market in four classy colors of Gold, Blue, Black, and White. This new price of the S5 represents a considerable drop of price of around about 10 percent. The price of the black color version of the S5 is also expected to be similarly slashed down soon enough.
The new Samsung Galaxy S5 had its official global launch on 11th of April 2014, and till now the reports say that the new smartphone has got a great response and its sales are strong in many of the markets. On the other hand, though the HTC One is a very capable smartphone and its previous model has been a big hit, the Taiwanese mobile maker HTC has had a fair share of troubled sales and struggled recently and is a considerably small rival of the mobile market leader Samsung.
However, Samsung seemed to have taken a safer bet and did not take any chances by going on the offensive by slashing down the price of one of the color variants of the Galaxy S5. Samsung’s strategy is definitely to draw the consumer’s attention away from the new HTC One (M8) smartphone and keep the limelight on the Galaxy S5, now with revised pricing.
However, while speaking during an exclusive interview, the president of HTC America, Jason Mackenzie told that Samsung is rightly afraid of the new HTC One (M8) and thus the price slash.
The new Samsung Galaxy S5 has been a highly speculated model as usual, and the world expected another revolutionary new smartphone with exceptional new features and quality. A thorough design change was also expected from the S5. However, Samsung had chosen to offer a more of an evolutionary new offering rather than a revolutionary one. Thus, the new Galaxy S5 has emerged keeping in line with its Galaxy family, while improving on everything good.
Design and Display
The Galaxy S5 adhered to the design, quality and built of the predecessor S4. However, now Samsung has improved on the built quality of the smartphone by offering two very practical and useful features. The S5 is thus now dirt resistant and water proof allowing one to use it to the fullest. While the basic plastic panel is retained, the S5 feels better to hold and its new perforated back design is also a welcome change. The screen size was also expected to be a leaping 6 inch this time, but Samsung has increased just an iota, endowing the S5 with a 5.1-inch multi-touch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 Snapdragon 801 and runs on the latest Android OS, v4.4.2 KitKat with 2GB of RAM. It is available in the market in two in-built memory options of 16 or 32 GB, while the company has provided the flexibility of a microSD card slot for the memory to be expanded to up to 128 GB. The improved hardware makes the S5 faster and smoother as against the S4.
On the camera front also, the Galaxy S5 is a huge improvement over its predecessor. The consumers always get excited with higher MP figure. Thus, the S5 comes packed with a massive 16-megapixel primary camera with all the features of autofocus, ‘refocus’ post snapping and 4k video shooting capabilities. The Galaxy S5 also features a great ISOCELL technology in its snapper which offers the advantage of good low light pictures with reduced noise level. This technology also enhances the light capturing ability of each pixel and thus makes for more detailed and crisp images. The camera on the S5 also shoots high quality sharper videos than the S4 and is a great improvement over the entire range of available rival smartphone models. Thus, it offers a great package for the high-quality mobile phone camera lovers.
Battery and Features
The new Galaxy S5 also gets a better battery pack than its predecessor with its 2,800 mAh which offers more time of work and play. Moreover, the mobile also offers some great new features on top of everything good of the S4 that wowed the world just a year back. The S5 gets the new Fingerprint scanner, which is one of the most remarkable features of the S5. Samsung’s rivals Apple and HTC both offer the fingerprint scanner in their models however Samsung is offering this feature for the very first time in the Galaxy S5.
Furthermore, the fingerprint scanner on the S5 is very practical and most potential one available. Another remarkable and very thoughtful feature that Samsung included in the S5 is the Heart rate monitor, which is a first-time feature found in a smartphone. This easy to use feature uses the camera lens to measure your pulse rate and is a superb useful feature for the health conscious and the elderly and ailing users equally. This added feature also makes the everyday essential mobile phone all the more helpful.
Thus, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a great deal, and with it’s now slashed down price in India it is certainly all the more desirable.
