What is Rooting?

For those who are new to Android Rooting, it is nothing but elevating the level of access on Android. That means you will be edit everything on your Android device that you are not supposed to edit or restricted by your device manufacturer.

With the help of a rooted Android device, you can do amazing things that cannot be done otherwise. There are several reasons why to root Android device. You can take advantage of several apps that take advantage of root to provide amazing features and customization.

For eg: Xposed Framework can modify UI of your Android device, Greenify can freeze the selected apps to provide a performance boost and there are lots of other apps.

Common Terms Used During Android Rooting Process

There are several common words and terms that we may refer further down in this article or in our rooting tutorials. So make sure that you have a clear idea about them so that we can proceed smoothly without any errors during the rooting procedure.

Bootloader – It is the base software of your android device which is responsible for booting up your phone OS, recoveries etc. Read Unlock HTC Bootloader or Unlock Sony Bootloader.

Recovery – It is also a basic software that can be used to backup, restore and flash partitions and OS on your android smartphone. Check out our special article on What is a custom recovery in Android?.

ADB & Fastboot – It is a command line tools which can be used to do various things to your device from your computer. It includes flashing ROM, installing APK, monitoring app activities and much more.

*There may be several other terms that we may use. If you don’t know what they are then do let us know we will be glad to add those terms here. ????

Diving Into the Rooting Process

Unfortunately there is no common rooting method for every android device. Each android supports different rooting process which may be common or not for several other android devices in the market.

As complicated as it sounds but we think that it is very easy and we are going to guide you through this.

First of all we will cover all the rooting tools that are generally used to root android device and then we will move on to the device specific tutorials. so let’s get started.

Note: Before diving right into the Android Rooting we will highly recommend you to download android USB drivers on your computer as well as completely backup android device in case something goes wrong.

Framaroot

Framaroot, often referred as one-click apk root tool is a small apk that is capable enough to root some android devices.

Towelroot, a considerable alternative to Framaroot was developed by Geohot for rooting the android devices which are not traditionally supported by Framaroot. Although it cannot root every android device but it is worth looking at.

Kingo Root is a great tool available for both Android as well as Windows. It can save you a lot of trouble as you can choose your preferable method. It is claimed by the developers that it is the fastest and most convenient way to root your android device.

Root Genius is a Windows software that can root your device in a single click. According to the official website it is capable of rooting more than 10000 android devices including smartphones and tablets. However some of the version of this software are only available in Chinese.

Kingo Root is a great tool available for both Android as well as Windows. It can save you a lot of trouble as you can choose your preferable method. MotoChopper

MotoChopper was orignally build to root Motorola devices but it has been noticed that it is capable of quite a lot of other devices. It is a one-click root method. Find out more on How to Root Android with MotoChopper?

*There are several other rooting tools like Unlock RootSuperOneClickBin4ry Rooting ToolCF Auto Root but we have not discussed it here as they are not as efficient as the tools mentioned above. *There are several chip set specific tutorials like for rooting mt6589 device and you can use these tutorials if you have same chip set on your android smartphone.

Acer beTouch E130 is a 2.6-inch phone announced in June 2010 with 416 MHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, 3.15 MP rear camera, etc.

  1. Download Z4root.apk to your computer.
  2. Connect your device to your PC/Laptop.
  3. Copy that file to the root of your SD card.
  4. Disconnect your device.
  5. Go to Settings -> Security -> Click Unknown Sources.
  6. Install APK file from the File Manager.
  7. Launch the app.
  8. Click on Root.
  9. When Rooting is done, Reboot your device.

Steps to Unroot Acer Betouch E130

  1. Repeat above rooting procedure above up to 8th step then click on Unroot.
  2. Now reboot.
  3. Excellent work! You have just unrooted your Acer beTouch E130. Now your device warranty is back (If your device is still in warranty period)

  1. Download RazorClaw App and 1-Click Tool.
  2. Place downloaded files on the desktop.
  3. Install drivers for your device. (Restart recommended)
  4. Plug your device into the computer.
  5. Copy RazorClaw app to your device's SD card.
  6. Go to Settings -> Security -> Click Unknown Sources.
  7. Open location in File Manager where you have copied RazorClaw app.
  8. Install and launch that app.
  9. Click on the root when the application opens.
  10. Now sit back and after completion, enjoy root Privileges.

  14. Place it on the desktop and extract it.
  15. Connect your device to your computer via USB cable.
  16. In extracted files open the executable file.
  17. A program will be launched.
  18. Choose the 3rd option which says CWM recovery.
  19. Follow the instruction that is given on your screen.
  20. Good job! You have successfully installed CWM recovery on your device.

  4. Download and install VRoot.
  5. Follow the On-screen instruction and your device will get rooted quickly.
  6. You will find an app named SuperSu in the app drawer.

HTC Explorer Pico is low-budget 3.2-inch phone announced in September 2011 with 600 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 3.15 MP rear camera and much more.

  1. Install HTC drivers to your computer.
  2. Download this file to your computer.
  3. Put the downloaded file on your desktop and extract it there.
  4. Switch off your phone.
  5. When successfully turned off, boot into recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power Button.
  6. Select Fastboot Mode from recovery mode.
  7. Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable.
  8. Now navigate to the extracted folder and open Recovery.bat.
  9. Select 1st option in the menu.
  10. Nice work! You have successfully installed CWM Recovery to your HTC Explorer Pico.

  1. Download and install HTC Desire V Drivers.
  2. Download HTC Desire V Toolkit.
  3. Copy it to your desktop and extract it there.
  4. Enable USB Debugging on your device.(Go to Settings -> Developers Option -> Tick USB Debugging Option)(In case you does not find Developer options on your device, then go to Settings -> About -> Tap on build number many times. A popup will show that you are now a developer.)
  5. Connect your HTC Desire V to your computer.
  6. Go to the extracted folder and open Exe file.
  7. When the program opens, select ClockWorkMod recovery from the menu and hit flash recovery.
  8. Follow the instructions that are given on screen.
  9. Nice work! You have just installed CWM recovery on HTC Desire V.

  1. You can root your IBall slide with Framaroot.
  2. After rooting your Android device, Download Recovery Image.(Stock | CWM)
  3. After downloading recovery image Flash Recovery Image Using MobileUncle MTK Tools.

Intex Aqua SX is a low budget 3.5 inch phone with 1 GHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 5 MP rear camera, 0.3 MP front camera etc.

  1. Download Intex Aqua SX Drivers, SP Flash Tools, Scatter File and Your desired custom recovery image (CWM or TWRP or COT)
  2. Install Drivers on your computer.
  3. Extract SP Flash Tools anywhere on your computer.
  4. Open Flash_tool.exe.
  5. Click Scatter-loading and select scatter file you have downloaded.
  6. Uncheck all the things except recovery.
  7. Now Click on Recovery and select recovery image.
  8. Go to Options Tick USB Mode, DA Download All -> Speed -> Tick Force to High Speed.
  9. Now click on download.
  10. Switch off your phone. After it is switched off, press and hold volume up key and insert USB cable.
  11. Wait for the process to finish.
  12. You have successfully installed recovery on Intex Aqua SX.
  13. You can easily Root Android Device Using Custom Recovery.

Update: You can also root Intex Aqua SX with a single click using OneClickRoot.

Lava Iris X5 is a low budget 5 inch smartphone announced in September 2014 with 1.2 GHz quad core processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, 8 MP HD rear camera, 5 MP front camera (both camera having flash). This device is also known as Selfie Android Smartphone.

You can root Lava Iris X5 easily with VrootTowelroot or Kingo Root.

After rooting your device follow the procedure given below to flash CWM Recovery on your Lava Iris X5:

  1. Install Flashify on your device from Google Play Store.
  2. Download CWM Recovery Image.
  3. Copy recovery image on your device storage.(Don’t place it in any folder)
  4. Launch Flashify app on your phone from app drawer.
  5. Select Recovery Image -> Choose a file.
  6. Choose desired file manage if asked and select the downloaded recovery image.
  7. Click Yup!
  8. Within few seconds CWM recovery will be flashed on your device.
