Bluetooth 5 is packed up with a lot of new and powerful then it's predecessor and it will make a revolutionary change in data transfer across devices.

Bluetooth 5, the next generation of Bluetooth is set to be launched June 16 2016. Executive director Mark Powell of SIG confirmed this news and assured that it will be much more powerful than the existing Bluetooth 4.2. You can read the whole email by Mark Powell from here. Without wasting any more more time, let’s take a look at the things that are improved in the next generation of the Bluetooth:

Bluetooth 5 : The Improvements

  1. Location : Bluetooth 5 will now include location and navigation services. In the Email Powell said “Bluetooth will also provide significant new functionality for connection less services like location-relevant information and navigation. By adding significantly more capacity to advertising transmissions, It will further propel the adoption and deployment of beacons and location-based services to users around the world.”
  2. 2X Range : Bluetooth 4.0 ideally supports minimum distance of 200 feet, according to SIG. But the new Bluetooth 5 is said to have approximately double range than 4.0.
  3. 4X Speed : We know that WiFi transfer speeds beats the Bluetooth by 1000 miles. But now surprisingly, this new generation of Bluetooth will provide four time faster speed than v4.2(supports transfer rate up to 25 Mbps).
  4. Detailed Advertising Packet : Don’t go after the name. No, it doesn’t mean more advertising(If you have studied networking then you might know what is an advertising packet is 😛 ). Current packet size of Bluetooth is 47 bytes. The new generation will have large packet size that it’s predecessor. This generally means that it will allow more information to be shared between the users.

The Verdict

Bluetooth 5 features seems extremely amazing however it may require new hardware and definitely you will have to wait for few months to see it in the upcoming smartphones. Also there is no news on whether it will be backward compatible to other version or not.
